July 2008 Meeting Minutes

Rockford Road Runners Meeting Minutes - July 2, 2008 — Rock Cut State Park
I. President Larry Ward called the meeting to order at 7:06 PM.
II. The minutes for the June meeting were approved by Steve Korn and seconded by Tim Sievers.
III. Treasurer’s report- Steve Korn noted that as of May 31 the club had a total of $11, 107.36.
IV. President’s Remarks- Larry Ward welcomed both regular attendees of the monthly meetings and newcomers.
V. Vice-President- Larry Swanson was busy coordinating events for the kids that came to the meeting.
VI. Race Coordinator- Steve Korn noted that the path for the 8K Fourth of Meld July Run was cleaned up and flood free. He mentioned that the circuit schedule was filled with the Byronfest 5K followed by the Kennedy 5K Run at Rockford’s NIU campus, and ending with the Severson Dells Green Run.
VII. Communications Chair- Tim Sievers took an opportunity to recognize Carol Bingley for her beautiful work and help with the newsletter.
VIII. Membership Report- Kathleen Yarger noted that there’s been serious consideration about creating a postcard that could be used for club publicity.
IX. Old Business
a. State Street Mile- Bob Sharp noted that there will be a Bed Race new to the
State Street Mile open to Swedish American employees in lieu of a noncompetitive
heat and Channel 13 will be a media sponsor. A percentage of the profits will go to the school with the most participants and Wildcats will also be a beneficiary of profits from the
event.
b. Bob Sharp noted that Donny Balsam may assist in fixing some of the timing
equipment.
c. Henry Gallenz stated that more help was needed to help plan and work on the 40th
anniversary party that will be held at Cliff Breakers.
d. Changes to the bylaws- Tim Sievers noted that a true quorum was present with
a total of 22 members present.
Amendment 1-Mike Maps motioned that the Rockford Road Runners, Inc. would be represented in the bylaws as the official name of the club. Bob Sharp seconded the motion and passed by vote.
Amendment 2-Mike Mapes motioned that the Rockford Wildcats would be a part of Rockford Road Runners, Inc and represented to the club by a committee. Tim
Sievers seconded the motion and it was passed by vote.
Amendment 3-Mike Mapes motioned that there shall be itemized financial statements presented to the club within sixty days of club events. Bob Sharp seconded the
motion and it was passed in vote.
Amendment 4-Mike Mapes motioned to delete the position of newsletter distribution from the bylaws. Kathleen Yarger seconded the motion and it was passed in vote.
XI. Tet Hadavas-Graham brought information that she wanted to add to the race calendar.
XII. The meeting adjourned at 8:04 PM
XIII. The next meeting will be at Lions Shelter in Rock Cut State Park and will be pot luck.
Bring your running shoes, a dish to pass and a good appetite.
