Salesman

I've been running for 21 years (some years 50 miles, some years 2000 miles).

After my daughter was born my favorite sport, golf, was too time consuming. I started running because it didn't take 5 hours every weekend. (Oh, and I was out of shape and getting fat!)

If I didn't run I would like to get up to about 380 pounds & win the biggest loser.

If I could no longer run, I would golf, bike, become a NASCAR driver or just sit around and gain 70 pounds.

My favorite run is the Rock Cut trails. Favorite race...Hobo.

I like to run with everyone and no one. At times it's great to run with people. However, I can solve all the world's (and my own) problems on a long solitary run.

My favorite thing to do after a hard workout is...EAT SWEETS!!!!! And complain about my aches & pains.

When I'm not running I like to.....golf, work around the yard (watch Dancing with the stars???? NOT).

I am inspired by my "old" friend Nick Moses. He got me started running and helped me accomplish many of my goals. We would run and sing the

"Moo Moo" song.

An obstacle I’ve overcome with my running is learning to deal with back problems (starting at age 14) and learning to deal with getting older and worn out parts.

The local runner I most admire is...Oh my...everyone who puts one foot in front of the other and just runs. I think about watching people train for their individual "peak" race while pushing through aches, sore muscles and injuries. Brian F___ast for his sensible approach to training. Tonya Thayer for setting goals (unthinkable ones to me) and reaching them. Coach Ron for keeping us all faster than we would be on our own.

To push myself on a run, I repeat that I feel strong, my breathing is relaxed and my legs can hold the pace (all lies!) Or I tell myself I'm kicking Brian Miller's butt (at golf).

My greatest running accomplishment is running a 2:58 at Milwaukee, and winning a race at WIU where the lead police officer pulled up along side me and asked my age...52. He said, "You're leaving all those kids in your dust!".

My next goal is.....Lose 15 pounds?? And try to run twice a week for a few more years.

My advice to other runners... What can you tell a runner? We aren't all that smart! How many times have you talked to a runner who has an injury and needs rest, only to find 2 days later they did a 20 miler? Ok, my favorite advice (usually to Tonya Thayer)  "shut up and run!"

I plan to run until...I learn to play golf Like Tiger Woods.
