Kid & Family Friendly Races

The Rockford Road Runners prime objective is the promotion and encouragement of running and walking and the education of the public as to their benefits. RRR has long promoted and supported a free youth running program which has introduced thousands of children to the sport of running, for many of those children the opportunity to run in area races, doing the sport they love, has been difficult due to the cost.  RRR realizes that the future the sport of running is with our children, with that in mind the "Kid & Family Friendly" race initiative was brought forth in an RRR committee.  By keeping race entry fees at an affordable level more kids will be encouraged and able to pursue the healthy and fun activity of running and racing. 



"Kid & Family Friendly Races" are defined by RRR as meeting the following criteria:

• Distances are 5k or less
• Race swag is included (i.e., shirts, other items, or some acceptable variation)
• Age group awards include 0-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-19
• Entry fees of $10 or less and at a minimum of one half the adult fee (e.g., if the adult fee is $30, then the kid fee would be $15 or less)
• RRR recommends that events look for a sponsor(s) specifically willing to underwrite your Kid Friendly race fee​
